Board of Trustees

The Trustees of Atlantic Housing Foundation were asked to serve because of their skills and experience in real estate, law, business, and their philanthropic activities. Several of the members are real estate professionals with over 100 years of combined experience in development, acquisition, finance, and management. The common thread among these trustees is their understanding that a nonprofit corporation, like Atlantic Housing Foundation, must operate under a higher standard of professionalism and strict accountability. They also understand the social purpose and nature of a non-profit organization, its position within society and law, and know that it will not succeed unless it is properly managed. 



Richard Whaley

Mr. Richard Whaley
has 40 years experience developing or acquiring real estate throughout most regions of the United States. He has been or is currently involved in a number of professional and civic associations, including Founding Trustee, Dalhberg Center; Founding Member, Ohio State Advocates; Former Director, Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition and Former Board Director National Housing and Rehabilitation Association, Board of Trustee - Nightingale Home Care Inc., member of NAIOP - National Association of Industrial and Office Properties Central Florida Chapter, member of FIABCI - The International Real Estate Federation. As a Founding Trustee, Mr. Whaley is also passionately involved with Atlantic Housing Foundation.

Rich and his wife Sharon have three grown children and divide their time between the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Ohio.

Dan French

Mr. Dan French
, was Founder of Atlantic Housing Foundation and served as its President and CEO until 2008. He continues to serve as Chairman of its Board of Trustees and remains involved with Finance and Acquisition activities for the Organization. He has been involved in the Affordable Housing field since 1990 when he was made head of the Affordable Housing Department of the San Antonio office of the Resolution Trust Corporation. He went on to serve the San Antonio Housing Authority as Director of Development. He has also served as Housing Commissioner of the Town of Hilton Head Island, SC and Chairman of the greater Hilton Head Community Development Corp.

He has 40 years of experience in the areas of development, finance, operation, appraisal and brokerage of real estate. He holds an MBA from the University of Texas, San Antonio.

Michael Nguyen

Mr. Michael Nguyen,
joined Atlantic Housing Foundation, Inc. in April, 2008 as President and Chief Executive Officer.Michael has over 14 years experience as an executive in multifamily acquisition, development, rehabilitation, disposition and asset management. Prior to joining Atlantic Housing Foundation, Michael founded Cima Advisors, a real estate structured finance and asset management firm. Previously, Michael was a Partner at the Utley Group, a private equity firm with a key focus on multifamily acquisition and development. Before the real estate business, Michael was an investment banker specializing in mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, debt and equity placements. He was also a Principal with First Southwest Company in its corporate finance department and a Financial Analyst at Banque Paribas and Prudential-Bache in New York. Michael holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and MBA from Texas.

Alton Jones

Mr. Alton E. Jones
is president of Armada Developers, LLC and also, AHF Campus Housing, LLC. Mr. Jones is former president of Hilton Head Company Realty, former president of Lake Las Vegas, former president of Grand Bahama Devco Realty, and former president of Ginn Lifestyle Group. Mr. Jones is a graduate of The Citadel and served for over 11 years on the Board of Trustees of the College of Charleston. He is a resident of Florida and a member of the Society of Colleges and Universities Planning

Amy Dodds

Prior to joining Atlantic Housing Foundation, Amy worked with children as both a teacher and a Day Care Director for multiple sites in California where she is from. She spent several years teaching for Head Start, where she gained experience in community outreach through Home Visits and collaborative family sessions with Social Workers and Aides. Amy spent time leading a large staff of teachers and support staff while working for Knowledge Universe as well. Amy has also been an entrepreneur for several years, owning her own children’s accessory boutique business which she is also the head designer for. Amy has dual majored in Early Childhood Education and Business. She attended West Valley College and San Joaquin Delta College in California prior to moving to Texas. Amy looks forward to furthering her Education and is interested in pursuing classes in the Real Estate field as well.

Dr. Raj Menon

Dr. Raj Menon
joined Atlantic Housing Foundation, Inc. as a Board Member in April 2014. Dr. Menon is President and CEO of Flat World Design, a promotional marketing company in Dallas. Prior to starting the marketing company, Raj worked as an engineering consultant and then as a management consultant for several years, working for companies like Trinity Consultants, Diamond Technology Partners (now PwC US) and Capital One. Dr. Menon is an active community volunteer and is passionate about education. He serves as an active volunteer with the Plano Independent School District and on the boards of the Plano Symphony Orchestra (where he is currently President), The Medical Center of Plano, as well as on the Executive Board of the Leadership Plano Program of the Plano Chamber of Commerce.

Born and raised in India, Dr. Menon graduated with an M.Tech. degree in Chemical Engineering from The Indian Institute of Technology. He moved to Texas in 1988 and received Master’s degrees in Engineering (M.S.), Business (M.B.A.) and a Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin. He lives in Plano, Texas with his wife and son.

Patricia Gulley

Patricia Gulley
 joined the Board of Trustees of Atlantic Housing Foundation at the beginning of 2017. Currently, Patricia serves as the Resident Coordinator for Arrowood Apartments in Houston, Texas. She has always been an actively and involved member of her community. Patricia’s impressive list of community involvement includes: Sidewalk Sunday School in local housing projects; Habitat for Humanity Women Builder’s Team; Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation; and, a long list of other community and political organizing feats. Patricia loves completing assignments that local churches have entrusted to her - from Sunday school teacher, to church outreach activities, to care minister for the sick and elderly. Patricia recognizes that diversity is one of the strongest components of success for the community.

Brooks Heard

Brooks Heard
is currently the Resident Coordinator at The Ashton at Longcreek in Columbia, SC. Brooks is licensed and ordained as a minister through the Southern Baptist Convention. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at Columbia International University and a Master’s of Divinity in 2013 also at Columbia International University.

He has served local churches in youth and children's ministry as well as pulpit ministry and pastoral care. Brooks is a passionate preacher and teacher. He has helped coordinate after school programs, summer camps, community service projects and other community activities, as well as educational, worship and outreach programs. Brooks also serves as Youth Pastor at Augusta Full Gospel Church in Augusta, GA and also as an associate minister at Concord Fellowship Baptist Church and Berean Church of God in Christ in Latta, SC.

Scottie Smith

Scottie Smith
, a native of Houston, Texas, is the founder of Scottie Smith II & Associates, one of DFW’s fastest growing residential real estate firms. Scottie has been appointed to the Texas Association of Realtors’ Young Professionals Network, Government Affairs Committee, and Political Action Committee. He has also been recognized by the City of Denton for helping residents find affordable housing. In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Smith dedicates his time to several community organizations such as Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated and Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity Incorporated. He also serves as an advocate for seniors in the greater Dallas area through his involvement with the Pegasus Professional Society and rallies to increase financial literacy as the Chair of the Economic Empowerment Committee for the Urban League of Greater Dallas Young Professionals.

Scottie Smith earned a Bachelors of Business Administration with a Finance/Real Estate concentration from the University of North Texas. While attending the University of North Texas, Mr. Smith completed his first real estate transaction at the age of 19. He later received a Masters of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame.
