The Trustees of Atlantic Housing Foundation were asked to serve because of their skills and experience in real estate, law, business, and their philanthropic activities. Several of the members are real estate professionals with over 100 years of combined experience in development, acquisition, finance, and management. The common thread among these trustees is their understanding that a nonprofit corporation, like Atlantic Housing Foundation, must operate under a higher standard of professionalism and strict accountability. They also understand the social purpose and nature of a non-profit organization, its position within society and law, and know that it will not succeed unless it is properly managed. Richard WhaleyMr. Richard Whaley has 40 years experience developing or acquiring real estate throughout most regions of the United States. He has been or is currently involved in a number of professional and civic associations, including Founding Trustee, Dalhberg Center; Founding Member, Ohio State Advocates; Former Director, Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition and Former Board Director National Housing and Rehabilitation Association, Board of Trustee - Nightingale Home Care Inc., member of NAIOP - National Association of Industrial and Office Properties Central Florida Chapter, member of FIABCI - The International Real Estate Federation. As a Founding Trustee, Mr. Whaley is also passionately involved with Atlantic Housing Foundation. Rich and his wife Sharon have three grown children and divide their time between the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Ohio. Dan FrenchMr. Dan French, was Founder of Atlantic Housing Foundation and served as its President and CEO until 2008. He continues to serve as Chairman of its Board of Trustees and remains involved with Finance and Acquisition activities for the Organization. He has been involved in the Affordable Housing field since 1990 when he was made head of the Affordable Housing Department of the San Antonio office of the Resolution Trust Corporation. He went on to serve the San Antonio Housing Authority as Director of Development. He has also served as Housing Commissioner of the Town of Hilton Head Island, SC and Chairman of the greater Hilton Head Community Development Corp. He has 40 years of experience in the areas of development, finance, operation, appraisal and brokerage of real estate. He holds an MBA from the University of Texas, San Antonio. Michael NguyenMr. Michael Nguyen, joined Atlantic Housing Foundation, Inc. in April, 2008 as President and Chief Executive Officer.Michael has over 14 years experience as an executive in multifamily acquisition, development, rehabilitation, disposition and asset management. Prior to joining Atlantic Housing Foundation, Michael founded Cima Advisors, a real estate structured finance and asset management firm. Previously, Michael was a Partner at the Utley Group, a private equity firm with a key focus on multifamily acquisition and development. Before the real estate business, Michael was an investment banker specializing in mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, debt and equity placements. He was also a Principal with First Southwest Company in its corporate finance department and a Financial Analyst at Banque Paribas and Prudential-Bache in New York. Michael holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and MBA from Texas. Alton JonesMr. Alton E. Jones is president of Armada Developers, LLC and also, AHF Campus Housing, LLC. Mr. Jones is former president of Hilton Head Company Realty, former president of Lake Las Vegas, former president of Grand Bahama Devco Realty, and former president of Ginn Lifestyle Group. Mr. Jones is a graduate of The Citadel and served for over 11 years on the Board of Trustees of the College of Charleston. George Griffiths, Jr. is the Founder and CEO of Alpha and Omega
Church Association. As a non-profit organization, Alpha and Omega
Church provides free onsite social, education and recreation programs
to residents living in apartment communities.
Mr. Griffiths did his Carpentry and Joinery City and Guilds in London, England at Vauxhall College, composing and film scoring at the Center for Maida Arts New York City and seminary extension in Miami, FL. From 2003-2006, Mr. Griffiths served as a the Multi-Housing Coordinator for the National and Community Service AmeriCorps Vista. After a 20 year career as a carpenter/cabinetmaker production manager and a life changing experience, Mr. Griffiths joined the staff of The Gospel Way Baptist Church in Miami, FL. During his assistant pastorate he became passionate about serving apartment communities. In 2001 he started The Alpha and Omega Baptist Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and in 2003 launched Alpha and Omega Church Association.
Carolina LopezCarolina Lopez is a Teacher’s Assistant for the McKinney Independent School District where she sees the importance of keeping children interested in learning and opening them to new concepts. Originally from Columbia, Carolina came to the United States in 2001 along with her family and became a citizen in 2010. She is currently attending the Collin County Community College to further her career in education by pursuing her Associates with plans to acquire a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development. Carolina joined Atlantic Housing Foundation in the fall of 2009 as a Resident Coordinator for the Redbud Trail Apartments in McKinney where her activities reflect her high regard for education. She believes in tutoring students and helping them build confidence in their ability to achieve. ESL classes for adults, exercise clubs and food drives for the community are only a few initiatives that motivate her each day at the property. Carolina continues to volunteer her time and services with organizations such as Christ Fellowship, Clothe a Child and Love McKinney programs. |
